My Struggle Essays - Roman Catholic Devotions, Scout Promise

My Struggle Since I was youthful, there have consistently been a battle between my folks and I. This circumstance started when my dad died when I was three years of age. I have lived with my mom and Step-father from that point forward. In spite of the fact that I love them both, we don't generally appear to agree on numerous issues. The reason for this is in part because of my wild nature. I like to remain out late and do things that whenever got could get me in a difficult situation. I am under the feeling that they hate my relationship with my grandma. I like to remain regularly with my grandma as opposed to at home, which they don't comprehend. I have remained with my grandma consistently since my dad got debilitated with malignancy, in 1982. After my dad died in 1983, I kept on visiting her. My mom and stepfather both regard my dad's mom a lot, and would do anything for her. In any case, they neglect to perceive any reason why I need to invest such a great amount of energy with her. My grandma is an enormous impact in my life. She has, and still does, to such an extent for me. Babysitter has consistently had a major heart for her family, yet nobody is as close to her as myself. Since I was two years of age, my grandma and I have gone out what's more, done numerous things together. We have had numerous incredible recollections together which I will recall for a mind-blowing remainder. We have gone out to eat, viewed numerous ball games togather, bone bowling, amd numerous different things. On the off chance that my folks could just acknowledge how unequivocally I feel about her and the time I go through with my her. I wish they could be somewhat more obliging of my sentiments and not put me in the position that they frequently do. The connection between my grandma furthermore, I has been tried ordinarily. As I was getting more established, my folks would attempt to discover things that would shield me from visiting her during the. They would discover things, for example, cutting the garden, washing vehicles, and doing house tasks. These thing they realize I loathe doing, however they appeared to need them done at any rate. However they wouldn't fret when I invest some energy with my grandma, they feel that I ought to invest more energy with them. My senior year in secondary school was the time that they truly were getting to me. Babysitter broke her arm one day when she fell down in the kitchen. From that point forward I have moved in with her. They felt that this was a terrible choice. I do cherish my folks truly, however I felt that it was the best thing at that point. As of this day I don't lament the choices that I have made concerning investing energy with my grandma. I love and regard my folks, still yet wish that they would not place me in the places that they do. Since I started going to school, my folks have been somewhat more sensible about the whole circumstance. This doesn't imply that they don't even now give me trouble. I simply trust that when I get done with school they will see how I feel, and not stress me over as much as they do.

Twins free essay sample

â€Å"Wait, both of you are twins?† I for the most part answer with a speedy â€Å"yes,† thinking about whether it’s extremely such a hard plan to get a handle on. There used to be when everybody knew who the twins were. The organized outfits parted with us. At that point it appeared just as everybody alluded to us as â€Å"the twins.† It wasn’t simple continually being contrasted with one another. I have long light hair and blue eyes, while Chris is my total inverse, with dim hair and earthy colored eyes. I jabber and Chris for the most part minds his own business. The day we entered middle school was the opportunity we had been hanging tight for †scarcely any individuals realized we were twins. A few educators didn’t even acknowledge until Open House. A large number of the instructors told our mother, â€Å"They act like they scarcely know each other.† Chris and I started to create various interests. Numerous individuals lose their distinction being a twin. In any case, I feel that it has helped me find myself. It has inspired me to be my own individual and build up my own leisure activities and interests since I need others to consider us to appear as something else, remarkable individuals. Now and then, I overlook that my sibling is really my twin †until it’s time to victory our birthday candles or we run into somebody at the store who shouts, â€Å"Oh my gosh, are these the twins?† It’s clear that we are going to take altogether different bearings in our lives. Chris flies on a whim, while I like to be composed. Eleanor Roosevelt stated, â€Å"Remember consistently that you not just reserve the privilege to be an individual, you have a commitment to be one.† Individuality is one of the most significant rules that one ought to endeavor to accomplish. Encircled by materialistic things, the normal individual is enticed to look like every other person, have similar interests, and act in a similar way. I feel lucky to have discovered my uniqueness right off the bat throughout everyday life.

ICIC

ICIC With two weeks left until Bike and Build (donate donate donate!) I decided it was time to bring my casual bike ride form of training to the next level by joining the MIT Cycling Club for one of the Best Ideas Ever Intercollegiate Ice Cream (ICIC) Rides. Basically, some kids with bikes from Harvard and MIT meet up on Thursdays for a nice bike ride to a new ice cream place around Boston. Did you HEAR that?! Ice cream, biking AND inter-collegiate-ness. If thats not the best idea ever, I dont know what is. Its meant to be an easy, social ride, which was good for me because it was my first time riding in a group, and Im still a pretty novice cycler. About halfway through, I was kind of tired and really looking forward to that ice cream. A bit afterwards, I began to realize we had gone pretty far and had passed several perfectly respectable-looking ice cream shops already. Hmmm Several miles later, I began to wonder if there really *was* any ice cream, or if this was some cruel joke by the MIT and Harvard Cycling clubs. Then there was this huge hill oh man, it lasted forever! I just had to keep going higher and higher and higher. I must have been going half a mile an hour to get up it. Ive never biked up a hill like that. Halfway through, I was thoroughly convinced there was no ice cream and wondered what I had gotten myself into, but I kept going because I really had no choice I had no idea where I was. I finally reached the top and- man, that felt good. The small part of my soul that hadnt lost hope about the ice cream half-expected the ice cream to be at the top of this mountain, because, well, we surely wouldnt keep *going* would we? But we did. Luckily and quite literally it was all downhill from there. We passed one of those machines that tell you your speed on the road about halfway down, and whizzing by, I clocked a speed of 24mph. Going that fast was a such a great feeling Im really excited about this summer! Not long after and much to my surprise, we actually did end up at an ice cream place- The Chilly Cow- and I had one of the most deliciously rewarding smoothies ever. The ride back was surprisingly only five miles (for a total of 18 miles). We didnt have to go up the Hill of Death again, but if we had, I think I would have been okay. I hope you are all enjoying your summer days as much as I am, and if youre not, go biking and get some sun and ice cream. =)

Race and Your Community Free Essays

string(96) " treat people who are like you\? † In giving my answer I have to say with the upmost respect\." I live in Charlotte North Carolina; I just purchased a home in a community called Ballantyne. This community is on what we consider the south side of Charlotte. In February of this year, members of my community were told that there was going to be a public housing development built on a seven acre lot that has been vacant for many years. We will write a custom essay sample on Race and Your Community or any similar topic only for you Order Now An emergency community meeting was called; several of my neighbors packed the room, all wanting information about what and where Charlotte’s next public housing development could be built. Many were concerned, especially those living close to the lot that is said to be the land used for the housing development. If Charlotte’s Housing Authority and a local developer are successful in getting their way the development will provide housing for 100 people who fall below Charlotte’s average income. This idea caused more chaos in an evening meeting that I’ve experienced in a life time. Based on the information that I gathered before my departure, the primary concern was because the development would be built within feet of the Ballantyne Country Club. Is it me or is the influence of race stronger for the population that’s greater because of numbers on this side of town? After this meeting I began to notice the difference in me and them. Even had a mother approach me in the grocery store in attempt to apologize for some of my neighbor’s behavior. I simply expressed my appreciation for her concern and carried on with what I was doing before her approach. When asked the question do the members of my community look like me, I immediately want to respond by saying why yes they do; we all have one head, two arms, two hands, two legs and two feet. However, I am beginning to look a little closer at myself and the difference between me and my neighbors. When I am looked at by many, it can be a little confusing; I have the hair of an American Indian, the eyes, which have sometimes been referred to as those of an Asian, the lips, ears and nose of a Caucasian, and the breast, hips, thighs and legs of an African American. My skin, well it’s a mixture of all the fore mentioned, my grandmother use to say my complexion was olive, now that’s one of few things that I begged to differ with her on, because I’m everything but, a shade of green. So now you’re probably wondering, â€Å"What am I? † I will tell you what I am not, and that is confused. On many occasions, I have always been one who selected other when it came to completing this section of an application; not because I was or am trying to be difficult, it’s just that there are no slots for an Asian, African, Caucasian, Indian girl to pick from, so I write it all out. Now, do my neighbors look like me? The answer is No, there are only a very few who look like me, and more than likely, those that do, we are related in some form or fashion. However, my community is one that is diverse; we have individuals from all walks of life, and from all over the world. There is a great mixture of race and cultures in my neighborhood. Some time ago the neighborhood that I live in was made up predominantly of white Americans. As time has progressed and America has made drastic changes in cultural acceptance our community has become one that is diverse. The leaders in my community treat people like me, and others with a great deal of respect. I have never experienced a problem personally or know of any other neighbors who have mentioned any problems with community leaders. The indifferences that I witnessed were those of others in the area when the mentioning of a low-income housing development was discussed amongst many, to the point where a meeting was called and the topic was discussed openly with all the residents of this area. Although many had previously been accused of making negative comments about the development, when the formal meeting was called, those with the problems were respectful of the officiators of the meeting, as they are residents in our community too. With this being said, the community leaders do not treat any of the people of my community different, they show us all the same amount of respect. They make me feel welcomed whenever I participate in any events, and on many occasions, they’ve made me feel needed when it comes to our children at the community center. When I mentioned to my neighbor, the assignment that I had to write about, she and I came inside and answered many of these questions together. Ann, is white and has been a member of this neighborhood since its creation, in fact, the neighborhood was named after her grandfather and his brothers. She has mentioned to me that she remembers when the neighborhood was all white, no others races or cultures for miles. She states that she enjoys the neighborhood now because she is able to experience more with the variety of people here. She has even mentioned that she feels safer here now than ever before, not that the area has ever had a major problem with crime, or any other problems, but she states that she knows that if anything goes on or wrong that we are less likely to feel like it was a crime against our neighborhood because of color, creed or culture. When I asked Ann how did she feel about our community leaders, she sniggled, and said; â€Å"Guess one of them does make me feel some kind of way, I’ve been married to him for 22 years! † My dear friend Ann has helped me with the answer to the question, â€Å"How do leaders of your community treat people who are like you? † In giving my answer I have to say with the upmost respect. You read "Race and Your Community" in category "Essay examples" They make me more than proud to be a part of this beautiful community. Other members of my community have never shown me any reason that I should be concerned with them or how well they treat others that may live outside of our community. However, as mentioned several times throughout this paper, the meeting about the housing development for low income families caused concern. They argued that they didn’t want this development in our area as it would decrease property value, because multi-family dwellings are in designated areas and not near the country club or golf course. They also mentioned that this would cause overcrowding in the public schools; which is certainly not an issue, as many of the children in this area attend private schools. They mentioned that there were not enough sidewalks and public transportation is limited. When I mentioned that this project would indeed cause a change in our community, but it would be good to have people of all income levels in the area, all other sides of town have these housing projects, so it’s only fair that the south side of Charlotte begin to pull a little weight. This was not liked nor accepted by a few, there were even some hecklers that mentioned that I allow them to live in my backyard. For the first time, in my history of living in this area, I experienced what some may consider racism or stereotyping. Although, it was not directed towards me, I still felt the pain that so many others in these type situations may have felt or are feeling. The question, do your text or work manuals contain information by or about people like me? Caused me to really stop and think. I have never really paid attention to who wrote the manuals for my development. Honestly, the way it is written I can not decipher the person or people’s race that put the manual, pamphlets, or leaflets together. However, there were many important factors that went into deciding where I wanted to live; for example the schools, the development is close to where I work, it is close to downtown, it is appealing to the suburban lifestyle, the recreation opportunities for me as well as my children, and our development is close to the airport. In my opinion, anyone that moved here for these reasons is just like me. Fortunately, there are no concepts of the manuals or texts that relate specifically to race. The local media in Charlotte NC represents all people. I am not an individual who watches the news frequently as I prefer not to because it seems that there is always some sort of chaos, turmoil, or other stories that don’t always have an ending that leaves one in a peaceful state of mind. On the occasions, that I have taken the time to read or watch the local news channel I am proud to say that both are operated in a manner that appears diverse. While writing this paper I specifically stopped and watched the local news channel and it seems as though the anchor men and women are individuals that portray themselves in a manner that make it impossible to tell their cultural backgrounds. I assume it is this way so that they don’t appear bias or as individuals leaning in one way or another to a specific ethnicity or race. One of the main similarities between me and the community leaders is the fact that they are also neighbors. These individuals’ names are known in all households in this area. They have taken the time to make themselves seen and to let all the residents in this community know that they are readily available to assist with any matter, be it big or small. One of the main things that made me pick this particular development is when I wanted to see the inside of a model home that was not available, the community leader that I spoke of previously, was called and came to take me on a tour of her own home, which was the exact model that I wanted to see. After the walk-thru she took the time to sit down and encourage me as to why living in this neighborhood would be an excellent choice for me and my children. Although, I’d lost my husband tragically in an automobile accident, I knew that I’d be making the right choice picking this particular area. The only difference between me and the rest of the community leaders is the fact that we are individual people, we all have our own likes as well as our own dislikes. There is only one thing that makes me different from my community’s leaders, and the majority of my neighbors is that I am a widow. Yet, I have this in common with a few of the elderly residents in my area. When speaking of minority groups in my area, the first thought that comes to mind is the number of women who live here, then other races, and ethnicities. I have to admit I am not concerned about there being a lack of representation for any minority in this area. As stated in the opening paragraph the only inequity that concerned me was when developers wanted to build public housing in this area the out lash of some of the individuals that live in this area. However, the issue has since been resolved, the conclusion: â€Å"People who are in favor of the Ballantyne Crossing complex say there’s a need for affordable housing for people who work in Ballantyne, who want to live there as well. † (Warren Cooksey representative of the Balllantyne area on the Charlotte City Council-WCNC News 36). This also enables the two individuals to work together and achieve the organizational goals effectively. It also creates loyal workers and helps the organization to retain talented and hardworking people who want more flexibility in their work hours due to personal commitment (Michael Page, 2016). The operators feel valued and satisfied at the workplace which directly increase their productivity and reduced the absenteeism rat e. It also prevents external recruitment and the cost associated with hiring and training new individual. Job sharing have enabled Motorola to operate 24 hours and 7 days with each employee committed to work efficiently to give them a competitive edge in the industry (Weinreb, 2011). 2. Job sharing for female employees is an appreciated arrangement in which they can effectively manage the work life balance but still there are certain issues female faces in work life arrangement. Female attrition rate is very high in organization due to the lack of flexibility in their workplace roles and responsibilities. When the work hours are reduced there are chances that the base pay will also get reduced accordingly. This directly affects their career development. In order to successfully carry out job sharing arrangement the availability of a job sharer is also very important. The job sharer should have same set of skills and abilities to complement the role of other employee. If it is not possible then the work performance gets affected. Women who perform night duty as a part of their job sharing may confront security issues and sexual harassment issues. The chances of performance appraisals also get reduced as the performance is measured as a team and not individually (R ichardson, 2009). Job share can mostly work in supportive roles; women who are into the role of senior level have to resume a full time responsibility or either compromise on their career (ACAS, 2011). 3. Advantages to the managers and job sharers: Job sharing enables the manager to retain skilled and talented employees, who otherwise have not been able to work due to their personal commitments. It also reduces the cost of hiring new individual. Burnouts referred to as stress among employees due to high workload at workplace. In the competitive environment employees are asked to be more productive which increase exhaustion and stress level. Job sharing reduces the burnout among employees and helps them to be more productive. It also improves the performance and leads to division of work among two individuals having relevant skills and experience at a cost effective manner. It gives Job flexibility to employees (Daniels, 2011). Disadvantages to Job sharers and managers: Not much employees wants to engage in this job sharing arrangements because it reduces the basic pay and hamper the career growth of individuals. It is very difficult for the manager to find the other individual who have the same set of skills and capabilities as another person. If the other individual involved in job sharing is not qualified or hardworking, it will directly impact the output of the organization and affect the growth of an individual (Crampton, et al., 2003). 4. The successful implementation of job sharing arrangements depends a lot on Cultural factors of the country. While introducing Job sharing practices in Australia there are several factors that are to be kept in mind: The female employees make 45 percent of the total workforce which means job sharing arrangement should accommodate more female workers and give them work flexibility (AIM, 2012). The number of male workers has also increased in the part time as they want to spend some time with their children and participate in other household responsibilities. Job sharing arrangement should involve womens in the day shift and men in the night shift. It has also been found the Generation Y people are more inclined towards work flexibility because they value their personal interest and passion more. They are also engage in pursuing other opportunities. Individuals who are reaching the retirement age but still want to continue their work but with more work flexibility. Job sharing is a good option for them and the organization because these people are experienced and qualified and must be retained (Anderson, 2016). By taken into account these factors Job sharing can be introduced in Australian organization. References Acas. (2011). Help advice for employers and employees.
